Restore Proper Function and Complete Your Smile

Learn More About Dentures

Even today millions of people around the globe lose their teeth from disease, decay and injury.

Dentures are an excellent option when several or all of one’s teeth need to be replaced in order to restore proper functioning and complete one’s smile.

Dentures quite literally fill in the gap to complete one’s smile and improve one’s speech, eating, drinking ability and overall health. Here at Taylor Drive Dental, we are proud to offer this replacement teeth option to our clients.

A lot has changed over the years when it comes to Dentures. Even at the dawn of time, humans were searching for replacement teeth options. Usually replacements were garnished from the deceased or from animals. Later, porcelain, ivory, and volcanite, a type of hardened rubber, were also used.

Advanced Technology for Increased Comfort

Thankfully, advancements in technology allow dentures to look more natural than ever now. Today’s dentures are made out of sterile acrylic resin, and are not only more natural appearing, they are much more comfortable than ever before!

Dentures produced here at Taylor Drive Dental Care are custom molded to fit comfortably over the gums once all the damaged or decayed teeth have been removed and the gum lining has fully healed.

They come in complete sets or partials if just a few teeth need to be replaced. Upper dentures have a flesh colored base that covers the roof of the mouth, also known as the hard palate. To make room for the tongue, lower dentures have horseshoe-shaped cut out.

Traditional dentures are removable but may feel a little odd or uncomfortable initially. Most need a little while to get used to them. Sometimes the mouth produces extra saliva as it gets used to having something foreign in it for extended periods of time. The tongue may also feel a little cramped and the cheeks tired as they grow accustomed to keeping the dentures in place.

Eating and speaking with dentures may also be a little awkward at first but will become more comfortable with time. Too much irritation, discomfort or pain, however, is a sign that something is not right and you should let our office in Sheboygan, WI know as soon as possible.

An Affordable Option

Compared to other replacement teeth options, dentures are typically less expensive than say dental implants, another popular option for replacing missing teeth. Being removable, they also give you the freedom to remove them throughout the day as needed. Dentures are an ideal option for those with unhealthy or weak jawbones from prolonged absence of teeth or other reasons.

While dentures are a great option for most, they aren’t for everyone. You must take the time to secure them with denture adhesive, or they can slip out of place while eating or speaking. If they are not cleaned or fitted properly, dentures can also lead to infection or tooth decay. Here at Taylor Drive Dental Care we will routinely examine and ensure proper fitting of your dentures as long as you have them!
